Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady has officially decided to hang up his cleats, announcing his retirement on Tuesday morning.
The NFL will never be the same. While there had been some speculation that Tom Brady could decide to postpone his retirement and return to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for one more campaign, that’s not going to happen.
On Tuesday morning, Brady, without question one of the best athletes the sports world has ever seen, took to Instagram to let his fans know that he indeed has retired. Now, Tampa Bay will need to find his replacement under center, but those are obviously some unreal shoes to fill.
Brady retires after winning seven Super Bowls
There’s no arguing who the GOAT of the NFL is. Brady won six titles with the New England Patriots and then he was able to shock the world by powering the Bucs to a Super Bowl last winter. Tampa Bay looked ready to try and go back-to-back, but the team lost to the Rams in the NFC Divisional Round.
Despite the early exit from the postseason, Brady was brilliant during the 2021 campaign. This had many believing that he could end up returning next fall. At the end of the day, though, Brady openly said he’s ready for the next chapter in his life and that he wants to spend more time with his wife and kids.
For his career, Brady tossed for 84,520 yards and 624 touchdowns, No. 1 on the all-time NFL list in both categories. In addition to his seven Super Bowl rings, he also took home MVP honors three times. It’s sure going to be weird watching games next season and not seeing Brady out on the gridiron. Countless folks out there were hoping this day would never come.
