Giannis Antetokounmpo is headed to Miami.
The Bucks are trading Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Heat, per ESPN, in a deal that went down late Monday night right before the 2026 draft. Miami beat out Boston to land him, and Milwaukee’s getting back Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, plus three first-round picks, including No. 13 in this year’s draft. The Heat are also getting Bobby Portis in the deal.
That closes the book on Giannis’ 13-year run in Milwaukee. He won two MVPs there and, more importantly, brought them a title in 2021—their first since 1971—along with Finals MVP. Now he’s moving on to the next chapter of what’s already a Hall of Fame career, trying to get back into the title mix.
He’s heading into the final year of his deal and can sign a four-year, $275 million extension with Miami six months after the trade is official.
Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade breakdown:
Heat get: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bobby Portis
Bucks get: Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, 2026 No. 13 pick, two unprotected firsts (2031, 2033), a 2030 pick swap, and a 2033 second
Miami’s been circling Giannis for years, going all the way back to his 2021 free agency window. They missed then, and again when they tried to land Dame in 2023, but this time they finally got it done.
Now you’re looking at Giannis and Bam Adebayo together, which is a problem for the rest of the East. With Spoelstra still running things and a solid roster around them, Miami’s right back in the contender conversation.

As for Milwaukee, this felt like it was coming. Giannis always said he wanted to stay, but he also made it clear winning came first. After the injuries, roster moves that didn’t pan out, and a rough 2025 playoff exit, it was pretty obvious they weren’t getting back to title level anytime soon.
Boston made a strong push with a Jaylen Brown-centered package, but the Bucks went with Miami’s offer instead. Now the Celtics have to figure out what’s next.
After 13 years in Milwaukee, Giannis is taking his talents to South Beach, trying to follow the same path guys like Shaq and LeBron took—coming to Miami to chase more rings.
