Trump is claiming double-standard

Per Politico reporting,

“So they now convict Roger Stone of lying and want to jail him for many years to come,” Trump tweeted, moments after a Washington jury found Stone guilty on all seven counts stemming from special counsel Robert Mueller’s since-completed probe. Story Continued Below “Well, what about Crooked Hillary, Comey, Strzok, Page, McCabe, Brennan, Clapper, Shifty Schiff, Ohr & Nellie, Steele & all of the others, including even Mueller himself? Didn’t they lie?” he added without elaborating on his accusations, musing whether there might be “a double standard like never seen before in the history of our Country” at play.

It should be noted that Roger Stone is not only being tried with lying to Congress but, also witness tampering. President Trump remains steadfast in his accusation of there being a double-standard.

Steven Groves, the White House Press Secretary said that he was not aware of any such pardon that was in store for Roger Stone.

The argument set forth by Donald Trump is similar to the ones that Republicans during the impeachment inquiries are making– citing a double-standard, claiming that Ukrainians interfered in the 2016 election. A closer look at the Politico piece with the original reporting seems to suggest it’s more than the Ukrainians wanted Hillary Clinton to win, and, didn’t think that Trump had a chance at all to win, rather than a pure-straight up classical interference with the case of Russia.

Reports of Paul Manafort working for Russian interests seemed to have scared them into possibly trying to want to counter his influence, however, and, give people guidance on how to report about him. It isn’t quite the same as accepting interference from an adversary, but, some of the questions that Republicans are asking very well may be valid. But, the way that they are doing it– not acknowledging their own flaws– definitely is not helping their case.
